Riot Accounts, social sign-ins, Riot IDs, Summoner Names. That’s… That’s a lot of things to keep track of! But don’t worry. While it may look like a lot, in reality, our integration of Riot Accounts and social sign-ins makes things easier than ever (we promise). Let’s try to clear things up so you can get a better understanding of getting in-game.
What’s a Riot Account?
A Riot Account is, well, you! At least in terms of Riot Games, that is. Your Riot Account is your key to access all of our games, which means you can sign into any of our games using the same username and password. Your Riot Account can also be tied to various social sign-ins, but we’ll touch on that more later.
Your Riot Account cannot be seen by anyone but you, so be sure to keep it safe by not sharing your username, password, or social sign-in information with anyone!
How do I sign up for a Riot Account?
You’ll have the option to sign up for a Riot Account when you first download a game.
What information will I need to sign up for a Riot Account?
You'll need an email address and your date of birth. For League, you'll also need to create a username and password. This information will ensure that your account is uniquely yours! We’ll also ask for other information, such as your date of birth, to ensure that your account is uniquely yours.
What is a social sign-in?
Social sign-ins are when you use Facebook Login, Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple to log into any of our games. You can learn all about social sign-ins here, and don’t forget to link your Riot Account to your social account. If you already have a Riot Account, be sure to link to your social sign-in method of choice, too! Gotta cover all your bases.
Why should I link my social sign-in to my Riot Account?
By linking your social accounts to your Riot Account, you ensure that all your information is connected. Linking your social account to your existing Riot Account means you don't have to type in your password again and again, while still retaining the same level of security on your account.
This might not mean as much to players who already have a Riot Account, although this allows you to pick your preference when it comes to logging in. For new players, this is a great way to get in-game using information already at your disposal.
I created a Riot Account with Google Sign-In or Game Center a long time ago.
That's great! We're going to need a bit more info to convert that into an account that can play on all platforms.
For Google Sign-In, we'll be asking you for your date of birth, as well as your email address. Once you fill out that information, you’ll be able to use Google Sign-in on any of our games.
If you're a Game Center player, you will need to upgrade your account to a full Riot Account. This can be done in the game settings of one of our mobile titles. Once upgraded, that will be your Riot Account across all platforms (hurray!)
I created a new Riot Account with a Social Sign-In. Can I link it to an existing Riot Account I own?
We do not have the ability to merge two played accounts, whether the Riot Account was created with a username/password or created via social sign-in. This is one of the reasons why it’s so important to link your social accounts to your Riot Account when you create it.
